Linda Hamilton, a veteran of the Terminator franchise, recently shared her thoughts on the 2019 film Terminator: Dark Fate, addressing what she would alter if given the chance. Despite the film’s underwhelming box office results, it maintains a strong audience reception, holding an 82% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Linda Hamilton’s Suggested Change to Terminator: Dark Fate’s Narrative
In a recent interview with ComingSoon, Hamilton expressed a desire for the film to better highlight the characters’ humanity. Though she has only viewed the movie once, citing discomfort in watching herself on screen, she felt the pacing was somewhat overwhelming and lacked sufficient moments that reveal the emotional depth and sacrifices of the characters.
“I thought there should have been a few pauses where you really see the humanity,” Hamilton remarked. “It was just maybe a little overwhelming and maybe not quite enough real moments. Just a slight pause, you know, slow it down, see the cost, you know what I mean? See the cost that the characters pay. But anyway, that’s just a style thing, you know?”
Linda Hamilton Reflects on Her Experience Working on Terminator: Dark Fate
Despite her critique, Hamilton confirmed her positive experience on set, particularly emphasizing the strong connections formed with co-stars Mackenzie Davis and Natalia Reyes. She described the collaboration as deeply meaningful, highlighting the unique bond shared among the actors during production.
Hamilton added, “Although I am not necessarily the judge to distance myself from it. I mean, I have to say that on that film, I was just so 150% [with it] being my legacy — Terminator [as] kind of the bookends of my career. So I really jumped in and looked after that character. I loved Mackenzie [Davis], and I loved Natalia [Reyes]. I’ve never felt so bonded with two other actors in a film. So in that way, it was beautiful, and I liked it.”
